Cozy Up with Fall Decorations!
Deck out your front porch
Help your home make a festive first impression with some simple fall decorations in warm autumn hues. A few pots of cheery mums in bright reds, yellows, and oranges is the perfect start. Layering different elements will make your decor eye-catching, so try wrapping a few dried corn stalks around porch railings. It’ll add a bit of height and rustic charm to the overall look. Spruce up outdoor furniture with some new cushion covers in autumnal hues, and top it all off with a homemade fall wreath.
Try this Nut Wreath DIY!
– Thick cardboard cut into a wreath-shaped circle
– Unshelled nuts
– Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Begin by cutting out a circle from your cardboard. To ensure your wreath is sturdy, we advise making it at least 4 or 5 inches wide all the way around. Then, all you need to do is start gluing the unshelled nuts to the cardboard. Don’t worry about distributing the nuts evenly – the charm is in the imperfections. Once you’re happy with the arrangement and all the nuts are secured to the cardboard, wrap a thick ribbon around the top and tie it off in a bow. Now just hang it up on your front door. Et voila! Your front porch is all set for fall.
Now let’s move inside…
Infuse your home with autumn aromas
In the chillier months, there’s nothing quite as welcoming as walking into a house and being greeted by the cozy scents of a wood fire and hearty cooking. Now, not everyone has a natural fireplace or is able to have a turkey roasting in the oven at all times, but it sure is easy to fake it ‘til you make it! Simply bring a pot of water to a boil and throw in some of your favorite spices.
Try this recipe!
– cinnamon sticks
– orange peels
In a soup pot, combine a few cups of water with a few handfuls of the spice listed above. Leaving the lid off, bring the pot to a boil. And that’s it! All you have to do now is sit back and relax with the fragrant aroma of fall.
Fireplace mantels were made to be decorated, and turning yours into a festive focal point is easy! You probably already have your mantel decorated, so it’s as simple as swapping out a few key elements to reflect the season. We love mixing different types of small gourds and grouping them together in an over-sized glass lantern. This keeps the decor from looking cluttered, and oozes effortless chic. If you feel this looks a bit bare, try draping a fall garland over the edges of the mantel.
One of our favorite mantel toppers is a framed chalkboard where seasonal quotes can be handwritten. This is a great way to keep the kids busy during the decorating process, and is an easy way to switch up the look of your decor should you become bored with it.
If you’re not lucky enough to have a fireplace mantel, the ideas above can easily be adapted to decorate a bookcase and/or a Thanksgiving tablescape. Get creative!
Don’t forget about pumpkins!
Pumpkins are a must! Even if you’re not into getting down and dirty to carve them, there are many ways dress them up and incorporate them into your fall decorating scheme.
DIY a monogrammed pumpkin!
– old fashion thumbtacks
– black sharpie or any writing utensil
This one’s simple, and there’s no carving needed! First, map out your letters by dotting an outline with your sharpie. Then, just press in the tacks along the dotted line! You might be surprised at how well this turns out, and it only takes a bit of time.
It’s easy to take this DIY even further by first painting your pumpkin in a color of your choice (we like using metallic). Or, brush your pumpkin lightly with Elmer’s glue (or give it a once over with a spray adhesive) and sprinkle it with glitter. If you look at your pumpkin like a blank canvas, you’ll come up with some really neat ideas!
