Arguably the world’s favorite eBook reader, the Amazon Kindle, is now available in Canada. Amazon.ca launched its online Kindle store in Canada in January 2013. Canadians can now use their Amazon.ca accounts to purchase a pre-registered Kindle ereader at $89, or can upgrade to the Kindle Paperwhite for $139 or Kindle Paperwhite 3G for $199.
Of course, Canadians had been finding their own ways of getting their hands on a Kindle in the past – ordering through the US version of Amazon – but now they can shop in their own currency and connect through their local Internet connections to purchase books via WiFi whenever they please.
The Kindle weighs less than 6 ounces (170 grams) and is lighter than the majority of paperback books, so it’s really good for when you’re traveling. The screen is glare-free and isn’t like an LED screen, so it looks like a book’s page and is readable even in direct sunlight. At night, you can turn on your bedside lamp or buy a case with a built-in book light. The options are endless, and so is the battery! Well, pretty much. The battery is said to last up to one-month on a single charge, but that really depends on how much you read and how long you leave the Kindle running each day.
Personally, I ordered one last month from Amazon.ca and have already torn through Stephanie Meyer’s The Host as well as Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby in preparation for the two movies to release in theaters this summer of 2013. While I considered the Chapters Indigo Kobo, I ultimately decided on the Kindle because of its faster page turning and super light weight.
Do you have a Kindle? Perhaps you have another kind of eBook reader? Let me know in a comment!
